What We Are For
Based in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU), the NTU E3 Research Center is led by its founding director, Professor I-Yun Lisa Hsieh. We combine artificial intelligence, data analytics, system optimization, and energy economics to develop practical solutions and decision-support tools for the transition toward net-zero energy systems.
Our research spans three interconnected areas: smart energy systems and grid resilience, low-carbon transport and supply chains, and sustainable energy decision-making. Across these areas, we study renewable energy and demand forecasting, energy storage and V2X, microgrids and distributed energy resources, green logistics, alternative fuels, and the environmental, economic, and public-health consequences of energy transitions. An emerging focus is the integration of AI data centers with power systems, including coordinated planning for electricity demand, flexible resources, distributed energy, and grid resilience.

Building on the E3 Research Group
The E3 Research Group was founded by Professor I-Yun Lisa Hsieh in NTU’s Department of Civil Engineering in 2020. Professor Hsieh has also held a joint appointment in the Department of Chemical Engineering since August 2021. Initially focused on electric mobility, the Group progressively broadened its research and collaborative network, providing the foundation for the establishment of the NTU E3 Research Center in 2025.
Today, the Center serves as a broader platform for interdisciplinary research, industry collaboration, international partnerships, and societal engagement, while the E3 Research Group remains its core student research community.
